A partnership project between Malvern Hills District Council and Worcester University has provided Graphic Design students studying at the University valuable commercial experience.
Malvern Hills District Council was offered the opportunity to give the students a design project which they had 24 hours to complete, giving them invaluable experience working within the pressures of real time commercial conditions.
The project brief they were given by Mal Salisbury – Economic Development Officer, was to come up with a series of designs to promote the councils farmers market over a 12 month period.
Cllr. Phil Grove, Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, said MHDC said “We’ve been really impressed with what the students have come up with. It’s great to be working in partnership with the university and helping to give students real life commercial experiences.”
Andy Stevenson Senior Lecturer in Design at Worcester University commented "We've been developing 'live project' collaborations with local organisations for a number of years now on the Graphic Design & Multimedia course at the University of Worcester. Central to our thinking is the idea that we can use the students' accrued design and communication skills to help out local partners - we call this system 'design for social good'. This latest project with MHDC's Economic Development Team was another great opportunity for our students to gain experience working on a campaign with both real clients and a set of real requirements. It also tallied with our growing interest as a course in helping to promote sustainability in its many forms too."
Phil continued “We continue to support the markets as a great way to bring visitors and additional footfall to Malvern. We look forward to showing off the designs the students came up with at the next Farmers Market on Saturday 15 November.”
The ever popular Malvern Art and Food Market will also be taking place in the grounds of Great Malvern Priory Church on the same day. Exhibitors include local designer makers, artists and some of the finest artisan food and drink producers in the region. The market that runs from 9.30am to 5pm completes a bumper weekend of events in the town.
